The large terminal block on my computer desk is full of sockets, and every time I turn off the lights at night and leave, there is always a piece of power adapter red and green lights glowing on the dark desktop. So it really does not seem to be a problem to unplug it after each use.
But if you look at the global perspective, these ineffective consumption is a staggering number. 2009 annual global cell phone sales of about 1.211 billion, if 10% of the users do not unplug the power adapter, the annual consumption of 500 million kilowatts of electricity, or about 240 million yuan. If you add digital cameras, MP3/MP4, video cameras, laptops and so on a bunch of power adapters always plugged in the terminal block, or according to 10% estimate, the total power consumption of the standby state will reach about 1 billion degrees!
Hundreds of millions of kilowatts of electricity! This number is shocking enough, 1 billion degrees of electricity is enough to support the electricity consumption of about 1 million typical Chinese families, if converted into carbon emissions, this electricity will increase 7.85 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions, it takes about 8.2 million trees to absorb. However, these are just the tip of the iceberg, the standby power consumption of TVs, DVD players, set-top boxes and other products is usually within 1W, and few people will have the habit of completely turning off the power of these audio-visual products, most of them are closed to standby with the remote control.
